According to The Broadway Musical Blog:

Quote

With nearly all of the original Broadway cast of Hair off to perform in the west-end transfer, producers are looking to cast a new group of Broadway hopefuls. Open auditions will take place from 10 AM-6 PM at the Public Theater on January 21. Actors are asked to prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo pop or rock song (with sheet music), and to bring a headshot and a resume.

Diana auditioned for the role on January 25th. Just sayin', still could be a possibility.

I know what you're saying, but I don't think Diana would've gone to an open audition either. It sounded like she had something scheduled, for whatever it was.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. It was still around the same time. This seems pretty likely too.

A woman who auditioned with her left a comment on Diana's FB and it appears SHE auditioned for...Hair(her FB profile is open).

ETA: Looking at the timeline, Diana did a callback on Monday right? Then late Tuesday appears to have accepted a role. Maybe she did the Hair callback in between? If it's Hair we'll know SOON. The first performance with the all new cast is March 9th.

You're right. It sounds like the callback for Hair was Tuesday. Maybe there were just two callbacks, one for the chemistry read for main roles and one for dancing. Otherwise, she would've auditioned for 2 different shows in 2 days.

I'm still thinking ROA because it's a female lead roll. "Hair" is more of an ensemble cast without what would be considered a strong female lead. With a showcase comming up this month and two country show appearence, why would Diana stay in NYC, for another 6 months, for a non strong female lead roll?

That's a very good point. Diana seems be okay with taking on more ensemble roles, as evidenced by signing onto Godspell, so maybe this is the case as well. I guess Sheila is the most prominent female role in Hair? I realize Claude and Berger are more the main roles.

Is this before or after she just tweeted that we shouldn't jump to conclusions? LOL I don't think we're going to figure this one out until the press release.

I've put Hair on the list as a possibility but I'm still having a hard time picturing her in it. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's like Suzie said, the show doesn't have a true female lead (Sheila is the closest thing). At the same time, it's not like Diana has any problems with being a strong piece of the greater whole rather than "THE STAR."

I just hope we find out soon. The guesses, speculation, information, contradictions, and excitement cannot possibly continue for another week or two. We'll all be nervous wrecks! LOL

Her tweets have put it all into question for me too. I have my preferences and thoughts on it all, but it's hard to know which it is or if we're even on the right track. I think Diana is amused by us though.

This isn't official confirmation BUT...www.twitter.com/broadwaygirlnyc, a fairly well known Broadway "scoops" type, says her sources in the Hair production have confirmed Diana is joining the cast. I'm assuming that's accurate but still holding out the congratulations to Diana until she or the producers confirm it publicly.

If this is true I'll admit to being surprised simply because there IS a nude scene, even though it is brief, disguised, and very tasteful. Diana is showing a real willingness to take chances and prove herself beyond how she's been stereotyped.

She's an actress playing a part in a legendary, Tony award winning musical. If the actors who have come before her during the 40 odd years this show has been around haven't suffered from being in the show, I think Diana's safe.

And to be clear, the Rock of Ages role would have required her character to work a stripper pole AND give a lapdance. In comparison, a brief, shadowed appearance onstage with 15-20 other people is pretty tame.

My opinion I stand by. There are plenty of shows to audition for why for the last three we are racy. I know she wants to be taken as an adult but hey. If I had the choice I would prefer Hair as it is tasteful which ROA isn't.

There is also a post on BWW since we are up to 2 shows lets make it 3.

I'm hoping, now that this is spreading, that if true the announcement comes soon.

I disagree that there are plenty shows to audition for, there are maybe 2-3 shows. Diana's too young for a lot of female roles on Broadway, both in her look and how she reads onstage. I think this is a great opportunity for her only because it's a well respected show that has won Tonys and received wonderful reviews. She's never done a show like this before (Godspell would have been close), so I think this role could help show she's a serious theatre actress.

As far as Diana wanting to do this show in particular, I am also surprised because of that one scene that requires the whole cast to be nude. I wasn't sure she'd be comfortable with that and she might not be 100%, but I would guess if she's accepted this role, she's willing to do it with the rest of the cast. It wouldn't be my personal preference for her, but it's done tastefully and involves practically the whole cast so she's never going to be singled out. Plus, we haven't heard from her on the matter so it's possible they have some way to partially cover an actress (that would be nice). We'll just have to wait and see what her thoughts are. I don't know if she actually wants to do it, but if the role requires it, she might have to.

On a personal note, I'm not a huge fan of all of the Hair score, so this show wouldn't be my first preference for her but some of it is pretty strong. The real question is which role she's going to play. Sheila would be the obvious choice, but I don't know if the current understudy for the role currently is leaving, so she may be promoted. If not Sheila then she won't have much solo singing to do.

She's not an exhibitionist, she's a professional actress.
Some nude scenes, at least in movies, use skin colored prosthetics to cover certain areas. If they do that, shouldn't be that big of a problem.

I think so too. That's probably what Diana will use.

I think the producers would be wasting Diana's vocal talent if they cast her as somebody besides Sheila. There's no point in casting Diana unless you are going to give her a role that allows her to shine vocally, and puts her front and center in terms of selling and promoting the show.

Agreed!!

The show producers will be defiantly be missing the boat if they do not capitalize on Diana's voice and star power. Jackie Burns, the current understudy for Sheila, is rumored to be promoted to the role but she has no Broadway experience. Jackie's only other roll was in ROA when it was off Brodway.
