Les was at the last show yesterday and it was amazing. The energy of the Starshine Tribe was through the roof and emotions abounded. The sleeves, of Diana's costume, were drenched, with tears, way before ETBH. Diana sometimes uses the yellow shirt to dry her eyes after ETBH, but this time Diana made Kyle and Ace cry and they too had to use the yellow shirt to dry their eyes. Actually, Diana dried their eyes for them.

The audience was full of energy also. The show was a sell out and the audience was full of the “Hair” faithful. As each tribe member introduced themselves, at the beginning of Act 1, they were met with enthusiastic cheers. Kyle’s “I Got Life”, Ace’s “Going Down” and Diana’s ETBH got standing ovations. “Hair’ also got a standing ovation. The tribe and especially Diana were all in tears singing LTSSI. Les admitted to me that he was a little teary eyed at this point also.

After the two songs of the e-party, Jeannette got on the platform and reprised “Aquarius” extending the e-party. Lots of hugs and emotions once again abounded.

The line at the stage door was huge. There must have been at least 200 people lining the sidewalk. Ace did not walk the entire line because he had to catch a flight but Diana and the rest of the cast accommodated everyone in line. The show started a little past 3pm but with the standing ovations, the extended e-party, and the large crowd, at the stage door, Les did not leave the theater until 7:20 pm.

Diana will be doing the Birdland show but will only be singing one song. After the show with Victoria Shaw on July 9th, Diana is going to take the rest of July off to rest herself and her voice.

Les took pictures of the e-party and I will post them later today along with anything else that Les has to still remember.

So glad Les got to attend! It sounds like it was a fantastic show. Aww to Diana drying Ace and Kyle's eyes. Was this during the scene right after ETBH? I read on BWW that Diana directed the audience to "yip" with her during that scene and that was it was one of the highlights in the show. Anything more on this? I remember that scene being emotional in the show, but I bet everything was heightened with this one.

Getty Images has a great set of pics up.

So does WENN

Lots of really nice pics of Diana with Ace and Kyle. I'm sure there will be more later. I love Diana's outfit at the stage door.

I'm so glad Les got to attend again! I bet the last Aquarius at the end of the eparty must've been a magical experience for everyone. I really hope video of that surfaces. The pictures are adorable. I'm trying to capture some videos, I'll post them as soon as I can get them uploaded.

LOL Diana and Kyle are priceless in this picture.

Was this during the scene right after ETBH?

Yes.

Diana does not have any funny lines or facial expressions in the show, but the tribe members that do realy played them up. Yes, Diana did get the audience to participate in yipping up the sun, which is not usual but the audience was more than willing to participate with clapping along with the protest rally and during the tribe singing "Hair".

As promised here are a few pictures:

Amazing photos! They're just as good as the professional photos I've seen from last night. You must have a great camera. Diana looks overwhelmed but I can't blame her. I just saw some video footage of the dance party (posted below) and it looks amazing..

I love that one of Diana and Kyle too!

Thanks Lorraine. Les has a Nikon but it is a cheeper model than the Nikons the professionals use. Les tried to take pictures of Diana as she came out of the theater, but security was holding people back while the professionals were taking the pictures. In the stage door pictures, Diana might be smiling but her eyes are not. Les noticed it right away when he talked to her on Sunday. Diana did come out, of the stage door, a little bit later than she usually does. I guess it took Diana some time to collect herself after the show. Even though Les will not admit it, I know that he turns to mush when women, he cares about, cry. I'm sure he was overwhelmed himself. Also he would not look at me after watching the video Diana made with Josh.

Those are brilliant pictures! Les deserves a special DT award. lol The series of four pictures in the first post break my heart but are very uplifting because that was the power of the show; it meant so much to so many people. And you're right, Diana's eyes say it all.

Thanks for the links, L.

It's almost a month that "Hair" has closed its doors but there is the occasional article about the show and "Hair" Broadway GirlNY posted an article on BWW about replacement casts. She talkes about "Hair" and Diana. She complements Diana even though it might be a left handed one but the article is interesting.

The difficulty comes for me when I see an understudy or a replacement too early: before I've reached that magical point when the show stops "transporting" me. I dealt with this when I went to see the replacement Tribe in HAIR, for example. Even though I saw the original cast five times, I still fell head-over-heels into hippie-land every time I entered the Al Hirschfeld theatre. I became a draft-dodging, hash-smoking, inspired flower child -- not a critic. That meant that when I went back to see the new "Starshine" Tribe, I was caught off guard. No matter how great the new cast was, I reacted emotionally as if they were impostors. This Claude looked vaguely like "my" Claude... but it just wasn't him! This Berger had similar hair and energy to "my" Berger... but something wasn't quite the same! Interestingly, Diana DeGarmo as Sheila was the most successful (by which I mean least distracting) replacement lead in that show, and I think it has to do with her physical dissimilarity to Caissie Levy, who originated the role. Because they look substantially different, my emotional brain didn't suffer the same confusion, and I enjoyed her performance the most out of all three leads in the new HAIR Tribe.
